memo pointer problems

We have a client where all memo fields were replaced with the name of the field and pointer was set to length of name of field. Other data is in the memo if you open it in an editor (like PDT) So name of memo field is DESCRMEMO - If you browse it in Foxpro - all you see is DESCRMEMO - if you open in editor you see DESCRMEMO and addtional characters if they were originally in memo.

Is there a way to adjust the pointer in the memo header?

Sounds like somebody issued the command:

REPLACE ALL DescrMemo WITH "DESCRMEMO"

If that's really the case, the first 9 characters are lost for each record. You might be able to do something to retrieve the rest of the data by a low-level edit, but restoring from back-up is probably a better solution.

their backup is not working (but of course) We are looking at the low level idea but...

If you send me the dbf and fpt, I will happily look at it, but I suspect you are going to loose or dislocate most of the memo data.
