We are in the process of moving our media from Netware 6 to a Windows 2003 server. I have installed the BE Media server on the W2k3 with no problems. I would now like to install a remote agent on the Netware server. My question is do I need to remove the Backup Exec components on the Netware server before I install the remote agent?

Thanks
Dan

Yes you do, easiest way to remove it, is to do a bestop first.

Then rename the SYS:\BKUPEXEC directory, and also rename bestart.ncf and bestop.ncf in the SYS:\SYSTEM

Then push out the Netware agent from the backup exec installation on your 2003 server - Tools, Serial numbers and installation - remote install.

Is it possible to run an agent and media server on the Netware 6 server at the same time? I don't like the idea but here is what I am dealing with:

I used a DLT tape drive on a Netware 6 server w/Backup Exec

Now I need to backup a w2k3 server and the netware server with an AIT tape drive

The need might arise where I need some data off the DLT tapes

Is there some other way around this other than having two media servers running? one for the DLT and the other for the AIT? The DLT tape is built in while the AIT is not.
