Media Pools and Multiple Device Groups

Hi everybody. We've recently purchased a new AIT drive Library to suppliment the DLT8000 drive we were using for backups.

We had a GFS job that used the DLT8000 with a bunch of media, and it was our desire to change the job so that it pulled the daily tapes from the DLT8000 compatible tapes and that the weekly and monthly backups would come from the AIT-3 tapes.

Arcserve, btw, will not allow us to put both the DLT-8000 and the AIT drive into the same device group, giving us a error message of "Group has other type of drives".

However, if we select the "*' for the Group (i.e. use any available device group) on the backup job, it will try to always use Device Group 1 (AIT Library) regardless of whether the available tape is a DLT tape or a AIT tape.

So, the short question is, is there any way to make this thing work properly?

I want it to use tapes from the media pool, and associate the tape with the proper group.

Or is this a "you can really only use one group" solution?

No, there is no way with one job, it has to be done with two or more.

Thanks. I was afraid of that. We are just simply sucking it up and buying more tapes for the tape library.
