Hey All,
Sorry if this is a repeat question, but the search functionality isn't working right now.

My question revolves around media overwrite options. What I want the server to do is: Start the backup job, if the media is full (from previous jobs) overwrite that exact same media.

Basically I can fit 6-8 weeks worth of jobs on a single tape. So I don't want to overwrite that tape until it is full, but then I want FOR SURE to overwrite the tape when it gets full.

Is this possible--it doesn't seem so given the BAB options.

Thanks very much,

Andrew

Here are the options BAB gives for Overwrite:

Options for first backup media:
-Append to media (I want this one, so that it doesn't overwrite EVERY time)

-Overwrite same media name or blank media (I don't want this, or it will overwrite every time)

-Overwrite same media name, or blank media first, then any media

Options of additional backup media:
-Overwrite same media name, or blank media

-Overwrite same media name, or blank media first, then any media

No, this cannot be done with ARCserve. You have to create a workaround by erasing the tape every 6 or 8 weeks or something like that.
