Media Center problems with Vista Ultimate

My media center keeps shutting down every time I try to open a video file. I am trying to stream it over to my XBOX360 but it doesn't matter if i'm streaming or just trying to play it in the Media Center, it just shuts down and says that it media center has detected a problem and is looking for a solution. Anybody have this problems or have any ideas on how to fix it.

Is this happening with all video files or just this one?
Anything in the error logs?

Can WMP 11 (or any other player) play your files without crashing?

Some tools which may help (if they work on Vista)?

it ended up that divx was not at all cmpatible with vista. it actually crashed my o/s so i had to go into safe mode and uninstall it. i use to use mce encoder to stream my video to my xbox 360 and it seems there is no program that can do this right now on vista. mce encoder needs the divx encoder to work and it's just not going. thanks for the help anyways!!!
