Meaning of PCL command esc *l1R 1

What is the meaning of the PCL command esc *l1R. The book says "pixel placement", with "1" meaning "grid centered". I can't find any additional explanation.
 
The pixel placement sequence is described in the PCL5 Comparison Guide technical manual.
