I have an Exchange 2000 box that is getting full of log files in the mdbdata directory. I am just running ntbackup for the data files and thought I was pointing to the IS but the log files are not being removed. I only have six mail users for the server so I know that I could always just generate a .pst for each user and then delete the log files but thought I would see what the consensus is on this strategy? Is NTbackup suitable for backing up the IS or do I NEED to purchase an Exchange aware backup program? Thanks in advance.

parker309,

ntbackup works just fine for exchange. when you are in the backup window, look for the exchange server by name, the top level is grayed out, but expand it and you will see the store and srs, check both and also browse to the where the log files are (have you moved them?) and check that directory. schedual, verify (always nice to do if you have the time) and run it. all the logs that are older than the current one being written will be committed to the store, then deleted.
