I have a relatively simple database that will not compact. I get an incomprehensible error message that only indicates a problem in Access and the "Notify Microsoft" dialog box pops up. Allowing the notification and subsequent search for a solution on the MS web site only results in a statement that no solution is available.

Thus far, I have copied the database and deleted each object in the copy one at a time to see if that would help me determine where the problem may lie. I deleted EVERY object and still had a 20Mb file. I discovered along the way the actual table objects only occupy about 1.7Mb.

Unless someone knows a specific cause, then the unfortunate alternative there may be many things that _could_ be wrong becomes true. Therefore, perhaps someone can offer a procedure that may help me locate the problem?

TIA

Roger

Create a blank database and import all objects from the database that does not compact.

Try compacting the new database.

If this still does not work. Try importing only tables first, then queries, then reports and forms.
