When I go to the Windows Update utility at microsoft's website, t tells me I need to update MDAC 2.1 for a securty patch. I run through the update, reboot, and the next time I go to the site, it tells me I need it again. I've gone through this process 3-5 times, and it continues to tell me I need to update it.

I believe the version of MDAC that I have on the system is either 2.5 or 2.6, so why is it even telling me about the 2.1 update? And if I *do* need it, why isn't it taking?

Any suggestions? --
How can you be in two places at once when you're not anywhere at all?

Have you tried kicking it? *joke

I've seen this happen on 98 within the past few months, in one instance it appeared that MS was just trying to annoy me enough to upgrade the machine *fat chance

The other times w/ security updates, what was happening, every security patch I updated, had a update :-/

Try writing down the update reference number, after the second or third time, see if it's the same one.. or different.. I'm not trying to be vague.. but who knows what MS is thinking half the time

Good luck

It's bizarre. It's exactly the same update. and when I look at the update history, it shows the exact same update (now) about 11 times. And it STILL tells me Ineed it (which I dont think I do, since i'm using a higher version of MDAC than the update...) --

hmmmmmmmm

is your system behind a firewall which could be interfering?

there is a chance that when you updated to the version you are using something didn't update properly.. which 'could' be causing the problem (ms see's a config showing one version, but the update isn't happening, because what is't expecting isn't there) :-/ it's a guess

Have you tried looking this issue up on their site?

If you do find an answer post it.. I'm currious as to the cause/cure

I had this same problem...updated several times successfully only to find that Microsoft wanted me to update again. After applying "Q324929: December 2002, Cumulative Patch for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1" the problem has ceased. Hope this helps.
