Mcafee Install not behaving

Hi all,
I am having a load of probs running the install of MVS on a WIN98 PC.

After the installation , the System Scan automatically starts up (whether or not you want it to - there is an option on the initial setup) which can only be stopped by ending the task.

After rebooting , the Splash Screen gets stuck until you end it in the task manager.

I have disabled the splash screen in the registry but I am unable to get the scanner to work 100%.

I have re-installed this 2x and am still having no luck.

I have encountered this before and solved it by reinstalling Win98 - this time the company dont want to go that route...

Any suggestions???
 
What version of Mcafee are you running? Make sure you reboot after uninstalling before you try to reinstall Mcafee.

If that still doesn't help, I've got a utility I can email you that will "completely" remove Mcafee from your system including registry entries which might have become corrupt.

Thanks for the info - but I've tried the reboot after the uninstall , and also have a reg cleaner too.

This has not made a difference to the problem - the version is 4.1.5.

Do you have any more ideas?

I don't mean a generic reg cleaner, I'm talking about a custom uninstall utility just for Mcafee VS, which does more than just removing it from Add/Remove Progs. It also removes all registry entries, even broken ones.

Also, you said you were running version "4.1.5". Is this the version of the scan engine? I'm asuming you have Mcafee 4.5 or later, correct?

That utility sounds dead useful, I don't need it now, but who knows :) Any chance of a copy tech@woodcom.co.uk
