Hey guys,
I have a 120GB Maxtor SATA hard drive, and Maxtor's diagnostic software reports an error Y3JS57 on it.

I'd like to be able to just transfer the data out of there. In WindowsXP, when I boot I see the drive but after a while the drive just disappears.

I think I need a floppy-disk based utility that can ghost the drive, and just keep retrying if there are errors.

Does anything like that exist, can you guys help me out on this one, I'm really desperate in getting it to work.

In regard to ghosting the drive, have you tried XP compatible versions of Norton Ghost or Powerquest Drive Image?

I have not tried that yet, does this software allow for floppy boot-up?

Is "driveimage" part of a package, I couldn't find it on the symantec
site.
Right now I can boot windows, and am able to copy certain files from the bad drive, but as soon as I even click on certain files, then the machine freezes and I have to reboot.

I did try something called WINTERNAL, but as it tried to get a list of files, it also froze at about 70%.

Anyhow, I think I got most of my files, I may just have to give up on the rest, if you guys think nothing more can be done.

Download MAXBLAST from teh Maxtor website! It does a complete drive copy and its free. It works with Maxtow and Quantum drives. You need a new Maxtor drive to copy "to".
