Hey,
How's life out there?

I've tried to live with my program screens re-sizing itself to different sizes all the time, but it just annoys me too much.

Both problems seem to be related. The first is that when I open a program (examples: Internet Explorer, notepad, folders), it is at sizes where either it is too small or too large, so I have to maximize them myself. The second is that when I open any program, it is placed at some part of my screen where I do not want it to be (example: only right half of my notepad file is visible, as the left half is off the screen), so I have to maximize the screen to get it to fit nicely.

Is there a way to make all my programs open up as maximized screens? Or what can I do to prevent them from changing sizes and positions?

Thanks,
-=Victor

Have a read of this thread.

If you want the same view for every folder try this, open any Explorer window and go via Tools/ Folder Options/ View and apply your current view to all folders.

If you want different views for different folders Open any Windows Folder Click on Tools/ Folder Options/ View. Select from the dropdown options "remember each folder's view setting".

You can also try this fix to see if it will hold your settings.

Sometimes windows XP forgets it's folder view settings.

Here is the solution.

Backup these RegKeys.

1:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]

2:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

After that you must delete them.

Restart windows to take effect.

Now you can change each folder and the setting will stay.

i've tried everything you said and everything on the other thread you provided, but nothing seems to work.

if you have any other suggestions, i would love to hear them. thanks

Have you checked for virus infection? Have you had trouble with your Display screen resolution settings? Have you done anything with your video drivers?

Some general things to try.

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Explorer.

Try Safe Mode (Do you have this problem in Safe Mode?).

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP (Q315341)

If still no luck a reformat and clean install of XP.

After trying four different methods that do not work at all, I finally figured out a way. Unfortunately, it is with the use of a program.

Usually, I hate running background programs because it may slow down my computer, but hey, this program is a rather small one, and it makes the IE-doesn't-want-to-open-maximized program not annoying.

Thanks for all the help though =)

Reply to linney:
My friend just formatted his entire computer three days ago, so I decided to open a new window in IE on his computer. Amazingly, it still does not open maximized.

I'm using the program now, so thanks for all your help anyway =)

Can you tell us the name of the program and location to download etc. This information may help others and complete this thread. Thanks.

How did I forget to include the link to get the program? =P I already copied the URL to my clipboard, but I guess I just forgot to past it into my reply. sorry about that.

The program is totally free, and the download shouldn't take too long... get it here:
