Max printers attached to desktop - spoolsv hangs

We are using Windows 2000 and we have HP printers. Looks like when more than 62 printers are attached the Word is hanging when open the document. Spoolsv takes 100% of the CPU. Looking at the registry activity, the spoolsv is looping through all the printers.
If I delete oneprinter or stopped the spoolsv service then the Word will work properly.
I have deleted the Version-2 registry and still not working.
Any way of controling the numbers of printers attached to the desktop

if you are using that many printers at the same time, you should set up a print server or limit the number of printers allowed to no more than 20 at a time. you are overloading the print spooler and forcing the system to allocate all its resources to the print spooler.
