We are in the process of purchasing a call recording system that is going to require us to purchase some DS1 boards, along with 120 of Avaya's outrageously priced right to use ports, as our system is about 40 shy of our max available. My question is, is there any way to reduce the number of ports in use to give us more available towards our max port count? We have 60 x-ported stations, but I didn't think those counted toward the max ports? Is there another type that can be created that doesn't count towards the max port count? Virtuals? From what I gather, if a station is created and is tied to a port on a physical board, then it counts towards the max port count. Is that correct? Any help would be appreciated. TT

When I was working on a client's G3v8 I found that the x port stations DID count toward the port count. I was told that virtual did not, but I wasn't able to create virtual with the release they were on (wasn't an option). You could do a little testing on your switch by creating a station and changing it from an assigned port, xport, virtual port, etc. I am pretty sure the xport stations do count though.

On one of our R8 systems, we too ran out of ports while creating X-port stations. However, you can get around this by creating hunt groups instead. As long as there are no members, calls to the hunt group's extension go right to coverage. Not pretty, but it does the job and saves on those RTU ports.

I agree, the standard way is to use hunt groups. X ports do count toward "max ports". Most users have lots of extra hunt groups.

Thanks for the information. I do have about 75 hunt groups left available, so I'll try to change some x-ported stations over to hunts. I also tried creating a virtual station, but was unsuccessful. Anyone know what the command is to create one? We are running a G3siV11.
Also, we have 4 stations types that are "phantom-user". I tried to add one of these also, to see if it counted towards the max count, but couldn't get it to work either. These phantom-users are where the attendants park a call for someone in the building, so they can be answered by dialing that extension. Again, thanks for the help, TT

phantom-user" are only used for the attdt. I have never heard of phantom stations.

That would make sense. I know we're still going to need to purchase more RTU's, but I'm just trying to limit the number needed, since they're so freakin' expensive! :p
Thanks, TT

If u are really hurting for money, and u are using xports for remote workers that only need voice mail, then u could have one xport for a bunch of people, then when u got to the intuity, u could have a autoattd give options for each individual mailbox.

To create a virtual station on Rel 9+, just add station as normal, and for 'TYPE' put in 'virtual' instead of a phone type.
