max monitor session on 6506/4948

I have a 6506 as a VTP Server and a 4948 as a VTP Client.

I believe that the 6506 has a max mon sess = 2 and the 4948 = 4. Would the 6506 VTP Server deny any mon sessions to the 4948 after two of it's own are maxed out?

Any ideas?

No it shouldn't. How are you using your monitor sessions? Sounds like you are having issues with your 4948.

I've actually been denied when trying to use the mon sessions on 4948 when the two are being used on the 6506. That's why I was wonder if the VTP Server/Client would have any hierarchical privileges to not set that up?

Setup on both 6506/4948...
monitor session 1 source vlan 700 - 703 rx

Shouldn't these are 2 totally separate functions . Obviously the monitor is for spanning ports or vlans for using a network analyzer and vtp is used for setting up a trunked environment which should have no bearing on creating monitor sessions . I don't know what the max number of monitor sessions are for each device , you would have to look at the cisco website.

Vipergg is correct. Two different functions all together. The max monitor sessions is two per device (Native IOS) Hybrid you can have up to six. Can you post the configs for both devices. I think we can help more if you did that.
