depends, what is your motherboard's chipset?
most of the chipsets I know dont support 4X cept for some of the really new ones (like the VIA KX133 for the athlon boards, and the VIA 133Pro for the Pent3 Boards)

also the video card has to support it, and by the way when you said Matrox G400, you actually thinking of getting that one?, I heard hardly any reviews about it, seems like the big ones now are Geforce2 GTS, and the soon to be comming Voodoo5 6000(which I think is a POS anyways despite the hype)
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=

The Matrox comes in two 400 flavors, the G400 and G400 MAX which has a faster RAMDAC. The "MAX" was touted as an excellent card a year ago (might as well be a million years in this industry), but was and still is extremely difficult to find (I have 2 backordered with Ingram since last September). They are also not as well supported by games as the Voodoo and other more common 3D chipsets.
Hey Karl, why so down on the Voodoos? I preordered a bunch of 5500s. I've had great luck with them and no complaints from my clients.
some of the known facts about Voodoo 5, and up, is that for one, they require a heafty ammount of power, epiacially when the 5000 uses a HDD power supply, and the 6000 uses a powerbox pluged into an outlet, this generally tells me about the lazziness in quality of the technical layout, also the size of the card, most of the time, since ven the Voodoo1 (especially in the days of the socket7) you would have to fight to get the card past the CPU, and since the size of the V5 5000 and 6000 are huge, also tells me another thing about the lazziness in the layout, a general rule about circuitry is the smaller the faster, also its been a fact since the V3, is they run extremely hot, imagine 2 V3-like cores(V5 card) or 5 v3-like cores(V5 6000) running in a small case, you get yourself some serious heat problems, also 3dfx had to wait over a year, cancleing the release of the V4, to come out with a card that has been trying desperatly to get back into the marker since the released of flawed V3, I still like my V1 tho, now for quality cards I think the TNT2 Ultra, Geforce DDR, and Gefore2 GTS are one of the best, and From what I hear the V5 6000 is going to cost like 500-600$, very overpriced for a power-eating , overbuilt peice of hardware.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
