I am troubleshooting a Video problem on an old homebuilt pc for a friend. When Win 98 boots, display produces an error. If I try to change display to anything other than 16 colors, PC will want reboot to accept new settings. At reboot, the PC will hang and produce horizontal lines across the monitor with a great deal of distortion. The power must be pulled to reboot (CAD doesn't work). This has recently occurred. My first thought was to reload the video drivers but my friend (who is not computer literate) cannot find any of the computer software. I have been unable to find the drivers on the internet.
There are no beeps at start-up, just the display error message which appears prior to the desktop display. My next thought was to replace the video card and lastly the Mobo.
Can anyone point me to the correct drivers? Does anyone have any suggestions? Help please!
Thanks
