matrix reports

Hi

i am wondering if anyone knows how to choose what fields that you want to repeat first in a matrix report. i seems to default to the field that is being displayed across the top and not the one down the side(which is the one I want) if anyone knows how to fix this or maybe there is a property i have missed somewhere i would appreciate it.
