Does anyone know how to turn this off via cli? i have redhat 6.

thanks,

bm

actually, i found that you can view and edit the smb.conf file. what happened is tht the windows 2000 servers are not able to browse their own workgroup cause they are trying to find the master browse list on a linux server. but i just checked and it is set to "no" for master browser. does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

BM

ensure the below entry is rather low in smb.conf

# OS Level determines the precedence of this server in master browser
# elections. The default value should be reasonable
os level = 33

64 would set a master I believe, see the note below:
Note :By default, Samba will win a local master browsing election over all Microsoft operating systems except a Windows NT 4.0/2000 Domain Controller. This means that a misconfigured Samba host can effectively isolate a subnet for browsing purposes. See BROWSING.txt in the Samba docs/ directory for details.

Thanks jaymzter,

I actuall set it to 0. I also added in two configurations:
local master = no and domain master = no. I am not sure if i have to reboot my NT machines to force another election or not. Should I kill then restart the samba service? because I am still unable to browse the workgroup via My Network Places.

Thanks,

BM

if you have not done it yet, restart samba any time you make a change to smb.conf. in addition, if you're familiar with ethereal, you could restart an NT machine and by sniffing actually watch the browser election and see what is happening
