Masking in Flash

How to make a light pass over a text using flash and Masking.

Create a layer with your text in it. The create a layer above it and copy the same text into it and lay it over the text in the layer beneath it. Now insert another layer above that one. This is your mask layer. Create a shape e.g a circle for a spotlight effect. Now wherever the circle is, you will be able to see the text underneath that it is masking. So if you make that text a bright colour it will look like a light is shining on it. I hope this is some help, otherwise ask me more questions <br>

Okay, I found this thread while searching for any information on this &quot;masking&quot; that I've seen some of you talking about. Now, I tried what MadArse said here but it doesn't work. Am I losing my mind, or is there more to masking? I've also looked around Flashkit and there were no direct tutorials for it. Is it so basic that it's a given that everyone knows it?...man I feel left out :-( Any hints or link anyone can give me to learn more? Thanks.
