Hello,

I'm trying to map two W2K machines together. I've made sure that they have matching admin user accounts. We're mapping to the root, but as a hidden drive (for example george$)

Both machines on the network and can see each other through My Network Places (with the exception of the hidden drive of course), but whenever I try to map a drive it comes up with a window that says "Invalid User or password". So, I try to map again, and this time, before I click on Finish, I click on Connect using a different username and type in the Admin account and password on the Primary PC and then click Finish and I get the same thing.

Any suggestions?

TIA!!

Try checking your share permissions on the george$ share. If george is going to be the one needing this share then george must be set in the permissions, other wise only an administrator will be able to map to it.

Hope I've answered your question

Regards

Simon

Simon,

Thanks for your input. After a little testing and a little digging the obvious finally hit me square in the nose.

The primary machine had recently been reinstalled from the ground up. I did not think about it, but the primary was lacking the account from the secondary machine so that it could have administrative rights.

I was thinking in reverse!! I was putting an account on the secondary PC that matched the primary pc's account and it wouldn't map. As soon as I did the opposite, it worked great!!

Thanks for making me dig a little deeper. Sometimes my brain gets so confused with all this peer to peer networking.

Thanks!!

Happy to have been a help. This networking stuff can tie your brain in knots sometimes.

Thanks for the up date
