Under Windows XP Pro we would install a software called "Microsoft Services for UNIX". This software would allow me to map a drive in Windows explorer, it would also allow me to run programs in the unix server using the "rsh" command.

Microsoft Services for UNIX will not work in Vista, as per Microsoft,(I tried to install it and it ended with errors).

If there any other way to for me to be able to map and access a UNIX folder?

I tried mapping using Vista Business and Ultimate.
Thanks

Joe

Do you need Vista Enterprise for things to do with Unix? I ask that question based on the later comments in this thread.

What flavor of UNIX are you using?

I think the easiest solution would be to set up a Samba share on your UNIX machine. You could do the whole NIS/NFS route but Samba would be the easiest for sure.

It's been almost 3 years since I've touched a UNIX machine, you lose so much not playing with it.

The answer is "PEBKAC!

According to Microsoft, both Ultimate and Enterprise has the ability to do UNIX.

We originaly attempted to use Samba and it worked, but, the transfer rate in Samba is slow, while using Services for UNIX would display a listing in about 1 to 2 seconds, Samba would take 10 to 12 seconds.
When we saw this problem we attempted to find the reason until we were told by a Samba "guru" that that is a known problem.
