How would I remove the "Grub" boot loader without having to reinstall Win98SE? Right now I get errors when I select Linux or safeload. Windows boots ok with no problems. [sig][/sig]
When you remove the boot loader, do you still want to have a method of booting into Linux? If you don't want to be able to boot back into Linux (without using a floppy boot disk), then running "fdisk /mbr" will reinitialise the boot record on the disk and let you boot straight into Windows. (Assuming M$ haven't removed fdisk from Win98SE...) It's still there andy, but I worry more about WinMe, as they removed all realmode dos stuff, so you no longer have dos at all.(you could argue the dos prompt still exist under windows, but that isnt real mode dos).
This is one of the reasons I always keep a bootdisk with linux, the great thing about the new GRUb is that, if you have to use a bootdisk, it'll load the kernel off the linux partition, not off the Floppy like it did with LILO. Thanks Andy. Fdisk /mbr did it for me. After working with windows 9x for the last few years DOS commands are getting harder to remember without going back to the books.
Ah - I knew I'd seen something somewhere about a very useful feature being removed... Maybe we could set up a company offering bootable DOS floppies for a small fee? ;-) [sig]<p> Andy Bold<br><a href=mailto: > </a><br><a href= > </a><br>"I've probably made most of the mistakes already, so hopefully you won't have to..."
