Management VLAN

After experimenting for a while, it seems to me that a management station must be in VLAN1 only in order to do management operations such as ping and telnet, ie if it is in VLANs 1 and 2 it won't work. Is that correct?

Hi,

Your question is a little confusing, however, are you asking if a Port on a Nortel switch is in multiple VLANS, then your station will not be able to communicate???

The Management port CAN be in any VLAN on the Nortel equipment I have used. (BS350, BS450, PP1100, PP1200, BPC2k) I do not recall ever trying to put the management port in multiple VLANs.

I always left VLAN 1 empty so I could easily find mis configured equipment.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

If you are talking passport then I believe that you are limited to having only 1 vlan for management purposes. However, you can have multiple vlan's for user traffic.
