I have installed solaris 8 on intel and man package SUNWman is also there but files in /usr/man are not there. What shall i do to install and see man pages?
Not entirely sure about the Intel version, but can you pkgadd SUNWman (in the directory where the pakage is located). You may then have to set your MANPATH (export MANPATH = <path to man pages>) and possibly do a catman to obtain the man -k facility. Let us know how you get on.
Thanx for reply...but I have already checked SUNWman with pkginfo and added MANPATH also. But I can't get man pages. Are there any other packages also (besides SUNWman )that have to be added to the system......
While issuing cmd "man ls" ...it shows manpage not found.....
But I found out the soln to prob...the man pages dir were not present in /usr/share/man...I copied all files from another server to this one...and it worked like a charm.....
Any idea why these files were not present/added to server when package was installed.....?????
Glad you found a solution. I don't really have any idea why the man pages weren't installed - in my experience (using sparc machines), they are installed by default. However, I guess it's possible that they weren't installed because you were doing a custom install and possibly missed the man page installation? Just an idea, but as I say glad you managed to sort the problem. Cheers.
