Making transparencies---RGB Difference

My Adobe Premiere works fine when I turn a single clip into a transparency---<ctrl-G, RGB Difference, click on clip's bkgrd>

My Adobe Premiere CRASHES when I use this same procedure with a group of clips. It's very tedious doing one clip @ a time when there are dozens of clips. Adobe 5.1 worked fine with groups. Adobe 6.5 constantly CRASHES!

Has anyone ever countered this problem before? Does anyone have a clue as to what the problem may be or how to resolve it???
