Is there anyway you could make an illustrator layer dance or flex somehow to the bass line of a song. I tried doing wave warp, and then setting keyframes at the bassy bits but this wasn't completely successful.

I would be ver y grateful if someone could help me

Easy (ish). This is one of my favourite toys in AE. It means rolling up your sleeves and using some MotionMath scripting - you don't have to write anything from scratch, just load up the 'layeraud' preset and apply the amplitude of your bass layer to the scale, opacity (or whatever other effect you may have applied) of your Illustrator layer. Sorry I'm not going into lots of depth about it, but once you get your head around it once, you'll become totally hooked - especially if you make your own choons - you can see the music animate all over the screen without a load of keyframing. Very cool.
