Make image smaller

Upon upload of a graphic file, are there any functions that resize the image from let's say 600*480 to 300*240. And I don't mean <img height=&quot;240&quot; width=&quot;300&quot; ..

You'll need PHP's image_* family of functions to do this, and for that you'll need the GD library and supporting libraries. See

The only problem is that the GD library functions make the JPG crappy. Just look at the difference:

Original -

Resized -

http://www.ilanium.com/test/babe_smaller.jpg

Any better libraries?

Nothing that is internal to PHP. You could try ImageMagick (
