Hi, we have an IIS server(Win 2000 Server) setup on a Dell machine which only responsibility is to be a server. Currently the server is setup to be our LAN server and does this flawlessly. However, I want to make this server into the webserver but I don't know how to get it to be a recognizable DNS server.
I have Active Directory up and running, I have the ASP pages setup, I'm using the defualt SMTP,WEB, and other Virtual servers.
It's an easy 2 step process for me to change where the URL is routed (DNS server) but what I want is for our IIS server to be a DNS server that will be recognized by NetSol like when I type DNS.mysite.com, NetSol will recognize this as being the route to my Server.
We have a Cable Modem connection, so would I have to setup a Domain Controller and Domain and suffix the Domain name to the DNS of of the Cable connection? Example:
The DNS name of our cable connection looks like this:
user.local.home.com
would I have to add my Domain name to the end of that Cable address?
result:
user.local.home.com.DNS.mysite.com
???
Any info would be helpful, we have a dude who we are going to pay to do this but he works for CBS and can't get away to do this, so it's like waiting for the Cable Guy to come to your house.
Am I on the right track here or am I off a bit somewhere, I could use some advice?
Just for info sake I am the Web developer so I am fluent in programming and other Server topics if that helps the way you post your respones (FULL BLOWN TECHIE LANG), I'm just not a network guy - thank you. Rocco is the BOY!!
