Make icon's background transparent

I've made an icon for my application with PhotoImpact6 and put background to be transparent(it works good for gifs), but when I save the file as an Icon(.ico) and asociate it with my application, the background is not transparent anymore. What should I do?

Your icon editor should have a screen and inverse colour. By selecting the screen colour you should be able to get it transparent.
