Im am using the SQL Server 2000 Database Maintenance Plan Wizard to create a backup of a database on a secondary server. On the screen Specify Backup Disk Directory there is an option Use this Directory where you can select a local drive or a secondary server's mapped drive. My problem is the secondary server's mapped drive is not being displayed. This mapped drive is share on the secondary server. What do I need to do to rectify this so the mapped drive will be displayed?

You need to specify the UNC for the network folder.

Thanks for the info, but I have now managed to get the server's mapped drive to be displayed. One more thing, I'm relativley new to SQL server 2000, and was wondering if there is a step by step guide to implementing log shipping from one server to another. I have been to various sites, including the Microsoft, and still no joy in finding a simple step by step guide. if you can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

Cheers

Hi AndyLord.

First of all, you will never SEE the mapped drive from within SQL Server as a drive letter. SQL Server only recognizes local drives. You need to specify the UNC location ex "\\server\drive\file.mdb" and you should be able to search for it in the DB Maintenance wizard but it will never display as a drive name.

As for the Log Shipping step by step, go into Books on Line (BOL) and type "Log shipping" in the index search. Select "configuring" and that should give you the step by step you are looking for. There is plenty of additional information under that same heading.

Good Luck!
