I have a user who ignored the warnings about his mailbox getting full. Eventually the size limit was exceeded and the mailbox closed. This stopped mail being sent and received. By deleting items, and increasing the allowed mailbox size, receiving mail was made possible. The mailbox, however, still does not allow sending mail. The server has been rebooted.

Any help would be appreciated.

If the mailbox is smaller than the limit now, the user just need to wait. Sometimes it takes half an hour or so (I guess this depends on the structures of the Exchange system) for the server to update this info and let the user send/receive emails again.

Thanks Richard but it has been more than 24 hours!

Did you check the user's mailbox size limit under account properties? It will overwrite server settings.

Yes, checked the user settings in AD. The user can receive OK but not send.

The only way I could resolve this was to delete and recreate the mailbox!

Thanks for your suggestions.
