Is there a tool available that will let me find a netbios name given the mac address??? There exists a duplicate ip on my lan and event viewer only gives me the mac address of the conflicting machine.
If you are running DHCP server then you can go to the IP address and it will give you the MAC address. Once you have confirmed that this is the culprit, you can use WINS to give the IP address to name.
Other options are to telnet to the IP address and you may find it is a printer and the setup screen will remind you which printer it is. You can try tracert if you have a large LAN which may narrow the search.
You can use your router/switch and lookup the in the ARP cache which should match the mac to an ip address ( cisco does).. that is assuming the node does have an IP address
