Does anyone know what command I can use or where I can go to find the MAC for the Network Adapter for a CLAN board, Medpro and the Intuity LX?

We are seeing some broadcasts that seem to be coming from the CLAN board but I cannot tell what the MAC address is for the CLAN to verify if it is the CLAN, MedPro or Intuity LX that is generating this traffic.

Thank you,

Thank you,

On your switch you should be able to do "disp ip-inter" This will list the interface to your clan board and the ip address. On your Intuity go into tcp/ip administration
then network addressing. This will give you the ip address for your Intuity.

If you find any mistakes, please consider that they are there for a purpose. And everyone needs a purpose.

I know how to get IP addresses I'm looking for MAC Addresses though, how so I see the MAC addresses of these interfaces, surely there has to be a way to see the MAC address for troubleshooting purposes, but I have yet to find the command.

You could ping the ip addresses then use arp -a command under dos.

You can try netstat arp mac for the CLAN boards. Not sure about the others, though......

If you do a 'status link x', using the link number that you assigned to the data module, you will get the MAC address of the C-LAN board. I'm not sure if you can get the MAC of the MedPro.

The status link had it for the CLAN, how about the Medpro and more importantly on an Intuity Map5 or LX?

You can use arping in Linux to resolve IP to MAC addresses, but you have to be on the same subnet. If you have a router between you, you will get the router's MAC.

If your router has SNMP enabled, then you can use arpfetch to get the MAC address.

I couldn't find arping on any of the Linux bootable CDs that I have, but arpfetch is on KNOPPIX. KNOPPIX is really good if you are unfamiliar with Linux and just want to try it out. It will allow you to use Xwindows, has man pages (help) and even has OpenOffice installed.

The way I have accomplished this is by going to a Windows PC and pinging the address. Then run the command arp -a and find it in the list. This usually works for me.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your comments but I am not looking to find how to resolve an MAC address, I am trying to find the actual MAC address of the Intuity, if a host is spoofing the IP address it will be resolved to the wrong MAC address. I need to see the actual MAC address of the NIC like the ifconfig command but from the Intuity as I can't get the Unix Shell.

I'm not sure if there is some informational menu that will give you the MAC from within the Audix shell. In that case, I'd temporarily separate the audix to it's own segment and sniff the traffic. You may need to initiate a session, or ping it. If Audix is isolated from the rest of the network, then you know that the data you get is from the true source, not a spoofed source. Of course, this would affect audix operation for the duration of your testing.

I was hoping we wouldn't have to resort to a sniffer or moving the Intuity, I would have thought this would be somewhere in the Intuity for troubleshooting purposes.
