I have tried to install Redmond Linux (now Lycoris) on both a desktop with an Intel 810 chipset and on a Dell Inspiron 8100 Laptop. In both cases, the hardware is detected correctly, but when it gets to the part where it wants to load lizard, it just says [FAIL]. Any ideas? I'm kind of curious to see this distro's look and feel if I can just get the thing to install.

Funny, I just tried to install Lycoris(Redmond) last night and I ran into the exact same problem. I finally got the install to work, however. When the part of the install came up for managing the partitions, I selected the "for experts" partition management feature rather than letting lizard find the partitions for me (like I did at first. That's when I got what you are talking about). After formatting the partitions, everything installed. I couldn't play the card game during the install, though. The install crashed and I had to start over.

Now I'm struggling to get my sound card and modem to act right. Otherwise, it seems stable. But what fun is a computer with no internet or sound?

Hope that helps. I'm no expert in Linux, so I couldn't tell you what to do next! I came here looking for some answers, too, and I just happen to see you are trying to install the same thing. Maybe you can do what I did.

Take care,

My problem is that I never get far enough to have any options. It hang on the beginning screen, just after detecting the hardware.

You may want to try the "safe mode" install. This will cause a little more work for you, becasue you will have to manually pick out your hardware. But the install may be more stable. It seems that when the lizard probes for hardware, one runs into the risk of the system hanging (or other strange things). This may help you get through the install.

By the way, did you download Lycoris from online or did you purchase it? Just curious.
