lsass.exe - system error

I have a Compaq NX 9010 laptop running Windows XP SP2. When it boots up, it gives me a error message "Lsass.exe - System Error - an invalid parameter was passed to a service or function".

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Be sure it is the legitimate lsass.exe and not some trojan/virus..

This is a layman's version of Q307545 in simple language.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
