Hello

Is there an open source utility for the ls command which gives the option for listing files sizes in megabytes?

Thanks.

GNU ls has the -h option to show "human readable" output. You find GNU ls on the Software Companion CD as part of the package SFWgfile. It installs in /opt/sfw/bin.

All;

Well I have Solaris 9 installed complete installation with OEM support but did not install anything off the Companion CD and I have the -h option.
OS Release 9/04

Also the -h shows under man for ls on my box?

Will a man page show options available that are not actually available until other packages are loaded?

thanks

CA

No, it looks like the option was added to Solaris ls in Solaris 9.

Annihilannic;

Thanks, I hate to post something that is completely wrong.

So sm42 what OS are you running?
If not Solaris 9 then you will have to try huebs suggestion.

Also you could do man on du and look at -h as this may help you also. But this may also be new to solaris 9.

Thanks

CA

CA. Apologies if my post sounded like a correction. Unfortunately, we only have Solaris 8 boxes, so I should have prefaced my comment with 'In my experience' to be absolutely fair.

KenCunningham;

No problem, the point you made was correct as far as Solaris 8, and I know your knowledge is beyond mine so I had to double check things myself. So in actuality I learned from your post.

Thanks

CA

Me too, first I've heard of the option in Solaris!

I wonder will they ever get around to replacing awk with nawk? (I've not used Solaris 10, maybe they already have?)

Annihilannic.
