GNU ls has the -h option to show "human readable" output. You find GNU ls on the Software Companion CD as part of the package SFWgfile. It installs in /opt/sfw/bin.
Well I have Solaris 9 installed complete installation with OEM support but did not install anything off the Companion CD and I have the -h option.
OS Release 9/04
Also the -h shows under man for ls on my box?
Will a man page show options available that are not actually available until other packages are loaded?
CA. Apologies if my post sounded like a correction. Unfortunately, we only have Solaris 8 boxes, so I should have prefaced my comment with 'In my experience' to be absolutely fair.
No problem, the point you made was correct as far as Solaris 8, and I know your knowledge is beyond mine so I had to double check things myself. So in actuality I learned from your post.
