Over the weekend, something very strange happened on our server. A good-sized chunk of the server's hard drive got wiped...a LOT of my source code files were completely overwritten with zeros, verified by opening them up with a hex editor. I need a utility that can scan the disk for large chunks of zeros (possibly just one large chunk) and tell me the names of the files that have been affected. I've found hundreds of files already that I THINK are affected, and it would take me all week to manually verify which files are still working.

The server is Windows 2000 Advanced Server 5.00.2195 with no service packs. The hard disk is formatted with NTFS. At this time it is only being used as a file server, there are no server apps running on it.

Any suggestions?

Also, although not quite as immediately important, any idea what could have caused this to happen in the first place?
