I just reloaded Win98 on a hard-drive that previously had Win95.
After I loaded 98 on the drive, I only have 2 an 16 colors available. Why is that? Doesn't Win98 2nd edition have all the colors on it to load? i.e. 256 colors, 16 bit high color etc.

How can I get all the colors back on the hard drive to use?

Thanks,

Jediwarrior

You need to load the drivers for your video card..

Most of the time when this happens, it's related to your video card driver. After reinstalling 98, you need to reload the correct driver.

Utilities like Sisoft Sandra and Belarc Advisor can help you determine what you have. You might also want to glance in the BIOS. If you don't have the driver on disk, you might be able to locate it by name searching the net.

I recommend downloading the latest drivers or looking for your old driver disk. Windows 98 doesnt have many new video drivers. If you run windows update that might help. Dont know if that still works for 98 or not.

If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

check your video card visually. usually on the largest i.c. it will say there the brand and model number of your video card. use that as a search string in google to download the proper driver. sample search strings: S3 Trio 3D driver, NVidia GeForce MX 100/200 driver, etc.

let us know if this helped. peace! [peace]

Thank you all for your posts. I took you advice and removed the video card to get the name and number off it, found the appropriate driver on line, loaded and it works great. All the colors are there.

Thanks again for all your help,

Jediwarrior
