Yesterday my wife asked me "where's my start button" and when I looked sure enough it was gone. went to control panel, clicked on the icon to restore it and it will not start up. Logged on tonight to try to find out what happened, tried to restore to one week ago, didn't work, logged off her profile, went to mine and now my start button, launch bar, and taskbar are gone. How can I get them back? I can't use the control panel and right clicking won't work.

How does it look from Safe Mode?
If you can't access the machine you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
