Downloaded HP software to run ScanJet 4100C with WIN ME but will not install. WIN ME appears to have generic software which will run scanner but will not transfer material to printer, word processors, etc., as did PrecisionScanLT.
Would appreciate any and all suggestions for restoring my scanner operation.

You may have to go in and manualy delete all files related to the unwanted app. make sure to incude the INFO file in the windows inf folder. You can use notepad to help locate the info file. if its not obvious.Next woulbe editing the registry. Then all else fail re-install.

I monitored a battle between WIN ME and an HP 4100C scanner for months until I did the following: Removed all Imaging Devices (scanner, camera, microscope) from Device Manager, removed HP Precision Scan from Add/Remove Programs, shut down everything running in Startup at msconfig, shut down, disconnected all three devices from power and computer, rebooted, installed latest disk from HP (I think the same can be dowloaded), shut down, rebooted, program installed (I did have to find a file at this point.), shutdown, reconnected scanner ONLY, booted up, and lo and behold the scanner works again including both left (copy) and right (scan) buttons on scanner and, finally, restored Startups. Hope all the steps are in sequence and that this procedure will help you; it was a tough battle.
