Hi all,
I have solaris 5.5.1 and recently there was a power outage and the system was not properly shutdown. Later the system has rebooted itself and i get a CDE login but when i enter the root user name and password it does not allow it ( says incorrect login ) when i use another login i get into the system.

I tried the following steps to regain the root password

STOP-A
inserted the operating environment Installation CD 2.6
at ok promt I typed boot cdrom -s
but instead of automatically logging me in as root i still end up getting the CDE login prompt.

I am desparate any help would be greatlu appreciated.

U need to boot with CDROM to the single user level. Then u can mount the FS's on ur HD..

Have you checked your device aliases to make sure that cdrom didn't somehow get aliases to your disk?
