I have XP Pro on a 3 year old Dell 9200. For a few months now everywhere that the text notation "my documents" should appear, e.g. on my desktop icon for My Documents, or in the Start Menu (first item in the top right just above "my recent documents" and anywhere else that I should see "my documents" all I see is a block of little squares. Where did the text title go and how do I get it back?

Otherwise, the My Documents function works fine, just that I have to select on a block of squares instead of the words "my Documents."

Have you tried right-clicking on the file or Start Menu link and seeing if you can Rename the file to "My Documents"?

Are you using any other languages besides English?

Do you see the same behavior from Safe Mode, or from Normal Mode but as a different user?

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

See what is on offer in this thread.

Linney,

The rename did the trick although I went ahead and did the chkdsk and the Sfc Scan. Neither of them produced any problems so that is good.

Funny, as a 3 year user of XP Pro, this is the first time I have ever had to do a chkdsk and with WinME from whence I came, I think that program ran almost daily.

Thanks for your help and accept a star as gratitude for a valuable post.
