Found sco unix box in storage area but can't find anyone with knowledge of the passwords. I am able to boot from a set of floppy disks taped inside unit and have a # prompt. I looked at the etc/passwd file but appears passwords are encrypted. Any help would be appreciated.

The command to change a password in Unix is "passwd". You could try to enter the command at the "#" sign were it will ask you to enter a new password twice, if it takes you are in luck.
All passwords in Unix are encripted so when someone forgets the password, a new one has to be issued.
Hope this helps

Thanks for all help. I played it safe and sent the hard drive to our unix guru for them to reset the password or possibly reinstall the OS.

BIS: One valuable piece of info I got from your link was info about a terminal program called AlphaCom 5. Prefer it to the other product I was using - TUN Plus. Thanks....
