lost email

Someone from outside our company sent an email to an employee here and the report says that the email was delivered yesterday at 3:53 pm however the problem is that the email address to which it was sent doesn't exist. How can I retrieve that email? I am not sure about where to go to get this lost email. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the alias associated to a mailbox, are you sure :)

Are "delivery failures" being dropped into a postmaster or similar?
