My contact list in outlook express says I do not have any and yesterday I had 50+. I've rebooted and let sit. I've looked in deleted and not there and the contacts folder in identies is a file size of 137kb. I've tried to import and it keeps looking for a .wab file and the contact file in identites is a dbx. I was trying to resync by importing this file.

I did import several different files in outlook the day before.

I could export the whole file and import, thinking it should see the contacts dbx.....

I'm not sure the next best step.

Thanks as always.

Outlook Express stores addresses in a *.wab (Windows Address Book) file. What happens if you try to open the Windows Address book without using OE? -->Start, Programs, Accessories, Address book.

I opened as suggested, it opened and no contacts were in there.

contacts is still 137kb in identities\88***\microsoft\outlook express

scott.wab in data\microsoft\address book is 200kb

should I try to open the file to see if there's anything in there? how about exporting the pst and the importing?

Thanks

When did we start talking about a pst file? Are you using Outlook Express or Outlook? - they are not the same thing.

What operating system are we talking about? And did you use the search function to find all the *.wab files?

lost contacts in outlook express, but also using outlook for others

using win98 and I used find. only one *.wab in app data\microsoft\address book

thanks

thanks, I not sure I understand..

if I create another profile will the contacts come back?

and to do this ??

Don't create a new profile - that will not help.

It sounds like you have found the right file and they should be there. Have you ever used multiple Identities? That's the only other thing that I can think of. Open Address Book from the Start menu and go to the View menu and make sure 'Folders and Groups' is checked. Expand any + symbols in the folder list.

If nothing there, go to File, Switch Identity.

Let us know what you find.

I found them thanks, I'd transfered them into Outlook and then moved them into a folder in contacts. Outlook express didn't recognize them. when I moved them directly into" contacts express recognized them

didn't realize they were coordinated that way

thanks
