Lost Authentication Certificate

I have a friend who has just had a serious disk crash resulting in having to reformat the disk and reload Windows and all his software. Although he located his certificate of authentication for Windows, he was unfortunately unable to locate his certificate for Microsoft Works (nearest thing to Office and I cannot find a Works forum!). He did originally register the software with Microsoft. Can anybody tell me is there a contact number, email address etc at Microsoft where he might be able to get his old or a new certificate so that he can reinstall the software he has purchased without having to repurchase which would be out of the question as he is a pensioner and money is very tight!

Have you tried in the web at the Microsoft Online Assisted Support the site is

http://www.microsoft.com/products/works/homepages/TechnicalSupport.asp#.

Microsoft indicates that it is free and it deals with Works and all of there products.
