Our small network was recently infected by the nimda virus. We updated our NAV 2000 and used together with the Symantec virus removal tool, removed the virus and apparently disinfected the server and workstations. Two days later, we attempted to install 3 new workstations into the network. The first install went smoothly. During the second install an end-user restarted the machine before the install had completed and logged on with an existing username and password. This info was rejected and the user continued by logging on to a domain similar to the machine name. The machine now has no network connections but more serious, the is no administrator. Going to the server (NT 4.0 w/sp6) I found that the administrator no longer belonged to the group administrators but instead belonged to domain admins. I am now unable to create another user with administratior group as the primary group. Has anyone experienced a similar problem or has ideas to offer as to the cause?
BTW, the network consists of 22 workstations running a mix of win9x, winME and NT4.0 workstn. The new workstations have win2k installed.
