We are experiencing sporadic episodes where one or two users are losing their mapped network drives while other users with the same mappings do not. All workstations are using Win XP-Pro SP2 on a large AD domain. This does not seem to occur to any particular user, workstation type or time. We’ve not found any related issues in the events logs. Users have simply been restarting their workstations and their mapped drives return. Has anyone experienced this or knows corrective actions we might take?

maybe you can also use this information about the autodisconnect functionality...

Thanks for the replies...

We’ve been running for quite some time with the default autodisconnect setting and have not had this rash of disconnected drives.

We do the drive mapping at logon via VBS scripts.

Example

Set objNetwork = CreateObject ("Wscript.Network")
objNetwork.mapNetworkDrive "J:","\\Server\Directory

One thing I have heard can cause some problems is that power conservation automaticly controls the NIC card and the default setting is to let it shut down the NIC to conserve power. A nice setting to have on a laptop but totally un-needed on a desktop. Go under device manager and check the power consevation setting on the NIC card.
Not saying it is the problem but I have heard of it causing weird issues.

Thanks Rbax... Good suggestion, but we indeed have changed this setting from the default at installation.
