I have 4 win2000 pro work stations on an nt4 sp6 server. I have a timeout issue. after a certain amout of time the mapping times out and i get a red x through the map. I went to Microsoft support page and found a bunh of articles and none of them helped. If there are some ideas i can use them. thanks

You can do it - but it's not recommended in Windows 2000 because you lose the DCHP release/renew functionality (which saves a reboot when you make an ip address change). If thats not an issue, go to START/RUN, then type: regedit

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

On the Edit menu, Add Value name DisableDHCPMediaSense, as a REG_DWORD. Setting the data value to 1 causes DHCP clients to ignore "Media Sense" events.

Reboot.

Hope that helps
